BNA Snow Shoveling Program

Thank you for everyone who was interested in this program. We’ve now finalized the list of properties we’re able to shovel. We do still have space for youth to shovel.

For youth interested in working with BNA’s Snow Shoveling Program

Any neighborhood youth at least 14 years of age are eligible to apply. Youth workers will be paid by the hour for shoveling in the neighborhood (rate to be posted when applications open). The areas shoveled will be residential houses and some public areas that are consistently overlooked by city departments and Metro Transit. Most work will happen after school hours or on the weekend. Since work times are determined by snow fall, we cannot provide a set schedule. You will sign up for times you are available and if it snows we will send out a text message to those who are available to work. You can work as little or as much as you are able. Click here to sign up to be a youth worker this winter.

For Residents interested in having their property shoveled

If you are a resident interested in having your property shoveled this winter by neighborhood youth, please fill out this form and we’ll add you to the list. It’s important to note that signing up does not guarantee that we will be able to shovel your property. There are many variables (number of youth workers, location in neighborhood, etc.) and we hope to add as many addresses to the program as possible. When it snows, you’ll get a text message if we will or will not be shoveling (i.e. if it’s just a light dusting there won’t be shoveling). Please note that youth only shovel after school hours and on the weekend.

There will be a set fee to residents for the season—$200 for mid-block addresses and $300 for corner lots. This fee helps offset costs, pay a slightly higher wage, and engage more youth in this program. If you are a resident with mobility issues or financial hardship, please note that on the form and we’ll work with you to offset costs. If you are a resident who would like to cover a portion of the cost for a neighbor, please note that as well.
