The Bancroft Neighborhood Association (BNA) is an independent nonprofit that serves the Bancroft neighborhood of south Minneapolis, which is bordered by Chicago Avenue on the west, 38th Street on the north, Cedar Avenue on the east, and 42nd Street on the south. It offers programs and events, leads community-driven projects, and keeps the community up-to-date on local programs and issues.

The Bancroft Neighborhood Association works to create and sustain an equitable and engaged neighborhood.

  • We foster a welcoming neighborhood with mutually supportive connections among all those who live, learn, work, and worship here.

  • We host and encourage inclusive and diverse community activities and events from the block to the neighborhood.

  • We strive for the adoption of socially and ecologically sustainable practices in Bancroft and the larger community.

  • BNA has a volunteer board of directors, elected by neighborhood residents. It is primarily run by volunteers, with one or two part-time staff members.

  • Historically, funds for Minneapolis neighborhood associations came from the city. 2011 was the last year the city provided funding through the Neighborhood Revitalization Program. Currently, the BNA is funded through grants and community member donations.

  • The BNA holds monthly open meetings, sends out regular newsletter and social media communications, hosts office hours about city programs, and oversees community gardens. It also represents Bancroft residents in the South-Central Minneapolis Anti-Racism Collective (SMAC).

    Each year, it organizes a community yard sale, a summer neighborhood social, and a fall harvest meal and Annual Meeting where we recap the previous year, share information, and elect new board members. Learn more
