The Bancroft Neighborhood Association stands in solidarity with our community in Minneapolis and residents throughout Minnesota who are facing the terror of ICE agents, and we call on Governor Walz to issue an eviction moratorium to keep families in their homes. Many people are missing work due to the ongoing threat of harassment, detainment, and deportation from federal agents in our streets. They are faced with the impossible choice between risking being kidnapped by ICE or losing their income. Without income, some residents cannot pay rent and are at risk of being evicted from their homes as early as February 1. Evictions would exacerbate the problem, making these residents even more vulnerable to ICE’s terror while facing the harms of being unhoused. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Walz issued an eviction moratorium through executive order while many residents were losing their jobs or unable to work. Now, many residents are facing similar financial realities, while at risk of being subject to violence from federal agents. Minnesota residents stand up for each other, and we value and protect our immigrant neighbors. We support the “Evict ICE, Not Us” resolution and call on Governor Walz to stand with Minnesota residents by issuing an eviction moratorium immediately.
